Ironflame - Blood Red Victory

Οι Αμερικάνοι Ironflame, η μπάντα του Andrew D'Cagna που έχει αναλάβει τη μουσική και
τα φωνητικά (oι Quinn Lukas και Jesse Scott παίζουν τα σόλο στις κιθάρες), κυκλοφορούν
τον Φεβρουάριο του 2020, το νέο τους LP, “Blood Red Victory”, μετά το “Lightning Strikes
the Crown” του 2017 και το “Tales of Splendor and Sorrow” του 2018.

Στην τρίτη προσπάθειά τους, οι Ironflame δεν απομακρύνονται από το ύφος των
προηγούμενων δίσκων, αλλά ο ήχος/παραγωγή είναι αρκετά πιο πλούσια και “δυνατά”. Το
συγκρότημα παίζει καλό και ποιοτικό ελεγειακό heavy/power metal. H μουσική του δίσκου
είναι πολύ ξεσηκωτική, με έντονο επικο-ηρωικό ηχόχρωμα και συναίσθημα. Οι μελωδίες
στις κιθάρες είναι αξιοπρόσεχτες, και οι ταχύτητες δεν κουράζουν έναν ακροατή που έχει
κάποια χρόνια στην πλάτη του στο συγκεκριμένο είδος, και θέλει να ακούει φρεσκάδα,
λυρισμό και όχι αναμασήματα.

Στο συγκεκριμένο είδος είναι πολύ εύκολο να συναντήσει κανείς “απατεωνιές” με πολλά
συγκροτήματα να ξεπατικώνουν τους ήρωες του παρελθόντος – γνωστές μπάντες ή πιο
underground- να παίζουν και να βγάζουν άψυχη, ψεύτικη και στουντιακή μουσική, χωρίς
έμπνευση, και όλα αυτά να παρουσιάζονται μετά ως true και γνήσιο metal.

Eυτυχώς οι Ironflame δεν έχουν καμία σχέση με αυτά τα συγκροτήματα. Tα τραγούδια δεν
πνίγονται από δίκαση, ούτε από πολλά ψευτο-πολεμικά φωνητικά στα ρεφρέν, και μια
δήθεν επική αντίληψη που έχουν πολλές μπάντες τα τελευταία χρόνια. Έχουν τον
power/επικό και ελεγειακό αέρα που είχαν οι Riot στο “Thundersteel”, οι Fifth Angel του
πρώτου δίσκου, oι Helloween στο “Walls of Jericho”, oι Μindless Sinner αλλά και οι
RagenHeart του ομώνυμου δίσκου. Όλα αυτά μέσα από την μελωδική, ηρωική και
σημερινή αντίληψη που έχει ο Andrew D'Cagna.

Ο δίσκος έχει υπέροχες, εξυψωτικές μελωδίες, πολύ καλά σόλο στις κιθάρες, και βγάζει το
συναίσθημα ενός καλού heavy/power metal δίσκου στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του ’80, με
σύγχρονο όμως ήχο. Αυτό συμβαίνει σε όλα τα κομμάτια, είτε τα πιο γρήγορα, αλλά και στα
πιο επικά mid-tempo τραγούδια. Προσωπικά προτιμώ λίγο περισσότερο αυτές τις πιο
επικές τους mid-tempo στιγμές, σαν τo υπέροχο “Night Queen” και το “Grace and Valor”,
αν και αυτά εξαρτώνται από τα γούστα του καθενός στο heavy/power. Καλή περίπτωση
power metal άλμπουμ εν έτει 2019-2020.

The US heavy/power metal band Ironflame, the band of Andrew D'Cagna, is releasing in
February 2020, its new LP "Blood Red Victory", after the “Lightning Strikes the Crown”
debut in 2017 and “Tales of Splendor and Sorrow” in 2018.

In their third attempt, Ironflame do not deviate from the style of the previous records, but
the sound/production is richer and "louder". The band plays good quality heavy/power
metal. The album's music is very uplifting, with a strong epic-heroic tone and emotion. The
melodies on the guitars are remarkable, and the speeds do not tire a listener who has some
years on his back in that genre, and wants to hear freshness, lyricism rather than “the same
old things”.

In this genre it is very easy to come across “scams”, with many bands copying the heroes of
the past, well-known bands or more underground, with their sound being completely fake
and studio-like, without inspiration. Let alone that they present themselves as true and
genuine heavy metal.

Fortunately, Ironflame has nothing to do with these bands. The songs are not drowned out
by drum-machines, pseudo-war vocals, and a supposedly epic concept that many bands
have had in recent years. They have the power/epic feeling and the air that Riot had in
"Thundersteel", Fifth Angel in their first album, Helloween in "Walls of Jericho", Mindless
Sinner and RagenHeart in their debut. All this through the melodic, heroic, and
contemporary perception of Andrew D'Cagna.

The album has great melodies, very good guitar solos and riffs, and gives off the feeling of a
good heavy/power metal album of the late 80’s, but with a modern sound. This is true in all
songs - from the faster to the more epic and mid-tempo tracks. Personally, I prefer a little
better these epic mid-tempo moments, like the amazing "Night Queen" and "Grace and
Valor", but this depends on one’s musical tastes in heavy/power metal. Good case of a
contemporary power metal album.
