KAOS - The Pits Of Existence

KAOS - The Pits Of Existence

Although I can say that I am into Bay Area Thrash scene pretty much, I’ve never heard of these guys from San Francisco. When I read in the info sheet that they are around since 1990 having toured with some of the biggest names of Bay Area, my excitement grew.
\r\nListening to “The Pits Of Existence” things became clear. Basically it’s all about a mediocre Thrash metal release where everything seems to be as it should but something is missing.
\r\nThe compositions might be well performed but they still sound kind of “not interesting” and though I listened to the album over and over again my first impression hasn’t changed. They sound like most of the “Big” Bay Area bands like (today’s) “Exodus” with a bit of Machine Head while in some parts the ghosts of Cavalera brothers arise to haunt the songs with their groovy rhythm. Jason Darnell’s vocals sound “ripped” reminding me mostly of the glorious German thrash metal scene (with bands like Destruction) than the typical Bay area singing style (which is more melodic). Including to the total the mediocre (or should I say weak?) production then we’re dealing with a “killing time Thrash metal” album (as I call it!)
\r\nBeing not familiar with the band’s previews releases I will take the risk and conclude that Kaos’s reputation didn’t spread in the Bay Area Thrash scene for the apparent reason. They weren’t big deal.
\r\nWhen in the same region there are bands like Heathen that released the exceptional “The Evolution Of Chaos” just recently, why someone should bother listening to this?
