Lachaise - Silent cries for help
Lachaise - Silent cries for help
There is a special bond between me and the Italian atmospheric scene. OK, it’s true that this relationship was born since I listened to Lacuna Coil and Novembre, but that wasn’t enough for me.. I feel lucky because a label from which I often bought stuff was responsible for the distribution for bands like Klimt 1918, Room with a view, etc. I also made my research in MySpace afterwards and I m glad I did because there are many bands with things to offer to this –and similar- kind of sound. That’s why I felt glad when I received the CD from Lachaise, glad to get to listen to one more band from this country. There wasn’t any colossal name as a label or distribution-responsible, even though the first impression by looking the CD was more than pleasant.. Some words by T.S. Elliot as addition to the whole concept and I was really anxious of listening to their music. Usually in my reviews, I make a first comment about music when start writing, this time I feel like holding it back.. And that’s because I think I won’t be positive enough, I have liked them somehow, that’s why I try to be careful of what I say.. I‘ve been listening to the songs endlessly, trying to determine from which side of the line that separates poor song-writing from uneven production they are.. I feel quite good when I decide that they are taken down by production, even if there are problems in the execution part too! Anya’s voice seems to have the potentials, but fails to come along, sometimes in a disturbing way while there are moments that it’s like everyone is mistaken but her, putting the mixing engineer on top of the fault-responsible list.. I can see there are some good ideas, one thing I do when I can’t figure what specific problem there is to what I hear, I try to close my eyes, feeling I m in a concert of one not so properly rehearsed band, where everything sounds good at the moment of the live, but if you record it and listen to it later on you can point out the mistakes.. This is how I felt with Lachaise, like watching them live, pretty good for this but nothing more.. Greece sounds close enough to Italy when it comes to this sound, and having watched enough gigs of bands like this one, it was exactly like those nights, had a good time there but at the end it was just one more night, unable to escape from the whole amateur feeling that came along.. It shall be of great experience being in a studio, recording your work, hopefully Lachaise gained something from all these and demand for more next time so we could take from songs like “A matter of..” all those that were meant to offer when first written..Wish the best!
