Leif Endling - Songs of Torment, Songs of Joy
All right… Name: Leif Endling, origin, Sweden, Occupation: Doom Metal!
\r\nThe well known and most beloved, founder of Epic doom metal and bands like Nemesis, Candlemass, The Krux, and Abstrackt Algebra decided to release his first personal album. Of course in the past there has been also a double cd release entitled “Leif Endling: The Black Heart Of Candlemass” but we don’t count it, since was a collection of rare tracks from all the stages of Leif’s creations (and a very good collection indeed).
\r\nSo, Leif along with Björn Eriksson – Guitar, Chris Laney – Guitar, Lars Sköld – Drums and Carl Westholm – Keyboards, release his first album entitled “Songs of Torment, Songs of Joy” with a unique dark atmosphere and torturing down tempo riffing. The heavy keyboard work make this atmosphere, so “black” and ultra heavy, like it was came right off, from a thriller movie.
\r\nThe vocals were made by Leif, and sound more like a narration and less like “proper” vocals. And his lyrical themes has to do with the darkest side of men and all the negative feeling someone can feels, like desperation, darkness, isolation, depression… Personally I consider this one as the darkest music ever written by this Swedish doom metal guru and in general one of the most “dark” albums ever…A masterpiece….
