LOWER DEFINITION - The Greatest Of All Lost Arts
LOWER DEFINITION - The Greatest Of All Lost Arts
By listening to the vocals in the very first track, the GODS dredg came into my mind! There wasn’t anything more I could ask for, “Lower Definition” had my full attention! And the great thing is that this first-impression similarity didn’t end to copying, the band seems to know pretty well their worthy elements and counts on them, led of course by the general “rules” of the genre.. In Greece people don’t seem to come along with this pretty well, we like to pretend we are “true metalheads” so, I know a priori that if I dare to use the –forbidden- word “emo”, many of those reading now will stop at this point! Truth is I don’t give a s#?%, especially if these people are of those who haven’t learnt to give music its chance before they dismiss it judgelessly.

\r\nThe “emo” genre is huge in subcategories, and Lower Definition are way to different from what greek media often show, which are caricatures, cared only about the fashion part, when it comes to artistic, this art is only about clothing, nothing near to music..If you have both of course, there’s nothing wrong with that.. In their site, screamo is the word to define their style and if I had to make this definement on my own I would probably choose the same word, as there are several brutal parts co-existing with their melodic ones. “Enter Shikari” (another forbidden name in Greece!) pop to my mind also, but I have to say for one more time that the band has a quite defined sound of its own. Four young guys from San Diego, who have already made a pretty big step and shared the stage with bands such as Glassjaw and Deftones, manage to create something so good, called “The Greatest of all Lost Arts”.

\r\nThis is not a new genre, a unique sound anymore.. The well-executed production though helps their interesting ideas stand on their own, making the final result really pleasant. Also add a great front cover to the positives! OK, they are not here to change the music history as we know it, but since their effort brought these great results, I believe we should give them a point for that (in my opinion, more than one!). For those who get scared by suspicious genres, haircuts, young ages; music is that counts and the sooner they realize that, the fewer quality bands they will let go undiscovered.. And when they get there, they will listen to such great song-writing that many of the “masters” of the scene couldn’t even imagine..
