Metal Church - This Present Wasteland

Metal Church - This Present Wasteland

\r\nMetal Church are unfortunately one of these bands that never drew the attention they deserved,
\r\nand really I can’t figure out why. Ok like most of the bands they had their drawbacks, especially
\r\nin the 00’s but ,generally speaking, they never released an album which someone could say was
\r\nless than average. “This present wasteland” is a very good album, is what we would call “a
\r\nclassic Metal Church” .It has all these elements that would define Metal Church, thrashy riffs
\r\nlike on the opening track “Company of sorrow”, mid-tempo songs like “perfect crime” and “Crawling
\r\nto extinction” as well as the 8minute epic “Deeds of a dead soul”. Kurdt Vanderhoof has done an
\r\namazing job on the guitar parts, crunchy riffs and melodic solos are all there once again, while
\r\nRonny Munroe sounds better than ever, though in some of the songs, the way he sings (along with
\r\nhis voice itself) reminds me of Bruce Dickinson! Despite all these the sense that is left after
\r\nlistening to the album a couple of times is that it lacks something…and you can’t figure out what
\r\nit is. Even though the compositions are very good and sound well worked with melodic lines and
\r\neven catchy chorouses the song themselves are not what we would call “memorable”. All in all
\r\n“This present wasteland” is not a bad album, it’s just different and I am sure that Metal Church
\r\nfans will like it, it just lacks this “thing” that could put it among their greatest albums.\r\n
