MORBID ANGEL - Illud Divinum Insanus

Morbid Angel - Illud Divinum Insanus

\r\nHold on, one sec... Morbid Angel...
\r\n
\r\nTime to drop our pants. But wait..Nope, I misunderstood.
\r\n
\r\nHere we have the greatest fathers of sick Death Metal. Because of this band we’re into death metal.
\r\nWe have the band who’s responsible for turning a line of notes into an idiom just by playing them in a particular way that made ears and souls bleed. And they did it in a way that even today none can surpass them.
\r\nI remember myself wondering, listening to Covenant for the 86754928th time, or Domination or any other album you like- they are all top- how can these notes be played with so much feeling, with such compositional peaks, with such complexity making it ahead of it’s time?
\r\nIt was up to the albums that were coming out,to take the Morbid Angel musical era to ahigher dimension, with all the other bands left behind panting. These guys’ compositions were simply beyond compare.. These are the great Morbid Angel that nurtured generations into the sickness of hard sounds. So well established and conscious, what more could anyone say about them? It might be one of the rarest examples of a band that’s name finds total acceptance in the degree that everyone was sure about the past AND the future of the band. Such a great band that everyone was sure about the future albums too, sure of their perfection, sure they will be distinctive and outstanding, different, unique, Morbid Angel.
\r\n
\r\nBut now we’re standing in front of the fall of the Titans.
\r\nAfter their humongous history, in 2011 the band releases their new album, titled: "Illum Divinum Insanus" resulting in the division of views, of their music and their world for the first time in the Morbid Angel history.
\r\nTo start off, let’s talk about their history. The latest changes that occurred was the departure of vocalist Steve Tucker, after Heretic and the return of their former frontman, David Vincent. Later on, the drummer Pete "Commando" Sandoval also temporarily departs and the new generation’s motor-Tim Yeung steps in. And that’s when the problems begin. I honestly don’t know what went wrong but this thing is not Morbid Angel. Weird shit took place in this album, The head of the band and basic composer Trey Azagthoth had announced that there would be electro-elements. Non natural sounds were present in previous albums too but what I heard on this one is beyond me. What I heard was cheap industrial shit reminding me of shitty bands I despise, what I heard here was the crap played in ridiculous goth places that managed to poison the music of the great Morbid Angel but I can imagine who’s fault and influences all of this might be.
\r\nWhat I heard here was an imbalanced abomination that’s far from Morbid Angel. With song titles such as "Too Extreme" and "I am Morbid", you can tell something’s wrong before listening to the songs. And then, when you actually listen to them and the gothness is vomited all over you, you start wondering if and why these riffs are actually coming from Trey’s magic hands. It truly is unbelievable how a band’s sound and playing can turn around like that. Almost none of the things that made me love Morbid Angel are present here.
\r\nThere is no blackness, there is no sign of that music production that made a difference, no riffs that ooze death and swamps, Sandoval’s chaotic playing is obviously absent and the throne has been taken over by the plastic "new" sound" established by Yeung and his kind.I’m pissed off at everything I heard on Illum Divinum Insanus and what get’s to me is the division caused because of what they did on this album.
\r\nA few tracks are the old Morbid Angel we know, full of meaning and rotten-souled but subjugated under the new industrial production, then we have the clearly gothic-industrial songs they decided to play. I don’t know but to me it sounds like a joke.
\r\nListening to this album will probably help the auditor get what I mean.
\r\nI’m done with this review.
\r\n
\r\nI would never believe there would come a day I’d pick up the shovel and bury this band. It’s like burying your teachers and mentors.. And I don’t even want to rate it, you can’t be a critic when it comes to Morbid Angel.
\r\n The only thing I want to do is listen to the album again and again just to try and understand why..\r\n
