MORTAL FORM - Taste The Blood

MORTAL FORM - Taste The Blood

\r\nThe Dutch Mortal Form even though they exist as a band from 1994 (they started as a cover band playing songs of Sepultura and Black Sabbath) they released their debut album titled “X-Plore” in 2001. in “Taste The Blood” manage to combine perfectly the death metal sound with Thrash’s raging fury along with the melody of classic heavy metal. Some may think “not something new” and perhaps they are right.
\r\nBut what makes Mortal Form really special are the melodic parts that are scattered all over the album. Clever lead parts and inspiring solos give them “extra credits”. Listening to the songs’ intros some would say that is all about typical death metal, weel that’s the impression until the lead breaks in taking the songs to a higher level.
\r\nThe production sounds really great having as a result a clear sound for all the instruments with the ripping guitars having the first role while the raging drumming along with the bass are driving the songs to a thrash infected death metal holocaust!
\r\nOn vocals we have the well known death metal grunts, giving the songs a more brutal approach.
\r\nAnother thing that made me a good impression was the lyrical part and the variety it has. While most death metal bands tend to talk about rotting corpses and splattered guts, Mortal Form’s lyrics vary from tale of the Roman Empire (The Uprising), questions about existence (From Ape To Christ), warfield stories (Besiege, Taste The Blood) to hangover nights (Guts In The Gutter).
\r\nGenerally I think that “Taste The Blood” is not only o worth buying release for the friends of melodic death metal, but also an album that addresses to a bigger audience and if Mortal Fear keep up the good work in the future, I am sure they will make a name. They’ve got what it takes.
