Mortification - The Evil Addiction Destroying Machine

Mortification - The Evil Addiction Destroying Machine

You’d think that a band that’s been around for so long and has produced so many studio albums someone must have heard of them… Well “The evil addiction destroying machine” is the fourteenth full length album of Australian Mortification and it can be described in one word: Boring!
Now before someone throws sticks and stones at me (which wont break my bones) let me justify the above statement.
It’s boring really! Not in a all-songs-sound-the-same kind of way but you can’t feel any power or energy to back up the kind of music these guys are playing. Sure there are lots of riffs, fast drums and loud bass but everything sounds off, unconnected and weak. There are tons of thrash/death bands out there that can make you bang your head and air guitar far better.
Details? Fine! Vocalist sounds like Cronοs from Venom though not so unholy and definitely more tired. The guitars are buried beneath the drums and bass to a point that some riffs go completely unnoticed. The drums could have been interesting if the composition as a whole wouldn’t sound so sloppy.
To be fair and to avoid discarding this album completely I’ll try to mention some good elements… For starters it is fast and raw. Perhaps if heard live in a decent hall you could find an impulse or two to make a mosh pit.
To conclude: Try Napalm Death or something.
