Revolution Renaissance - Trinity

Revolution Renaissance - Trinity

“Trinity” as the title implies is the third and probably the last release of Timo Tolki’s personal bet since the band parted ways a few months before its release. Music wise “Trinity” is a decent power metal album with songs that follow the good old Stratovarious songwriting method (what else?) where melodic parts and mid tempo rhythms seem to be the leading force. As a whole the album varies concerning the songs, so we have some ultra “catchy” hits like “A Lot Like Me” (whose main riff is Helloween’s “Perfect Gentleman” without the keys!) as well as some emotional ballads like “Frozen Winter Heart”.
\r\nTimo Tolki’s ability to write “up lifting” songs with stunning ease is known from the Stratovarious era, after all he was the mastermind of the band, so the guitar work is guaranteed, Magnus Rosen (ex-Hammerfall) on the bass and Bob Katsionis on the keyboards offer an excellent work on “Trinity”. But there’s something missing from this album, the production is very week and in some parts the guitars are sounding “buried” so is the voice of the lead singer Gus Monsanto, I can’t say that he was the right choice for the band.
\r\nAll and all “Trinity” is a pretty decent power metal release but it can’t be matched with the legendary “New Era” and I am not referring to the fact that Michael Kiske is singing in some of the songs but to the fact that the songs were much better! I am sure that Strato –fans will like it but those of you not familiar with Revolution Renaissance, better go for “New Era”.
