SERENITY - Fallen Sanctuary
SERENITY - Fallen Sanctuary
\r\nSerenity is an Austrian band formed in January 2001 and after a change of the line-up in March 2004 (still the same since),dedicated to the genre of Symphonic Power Metal. Having released "Starseed V.R." (demo) - "Engraved Within"(demo) and "Words Untold & Dreams Unlived" (self released cd) and having performed with famous acts (DIO,KAMELOT, MORGANA LEFAY, SACRED STEEL), the time seemed right for their first release, under a label and so "Fallen Sanctuary" was born. The first thing somebody notices while listening to their music is, the very good vocal and keyboard arrangements. Not impressive, but well-placed and serving-their-purpose guitars, proove the maturity of this "keyboard-driven-melodies" band. If you want influences of Serenity, I would definitely mention (less progressive) Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, Edguy (Vain Glory Opera’s era) and (a little bit of) Avantasia.

\r\nI would again stick to the job made by the keyboard player, who has taken the (a little more than average) compositions and led them to a much higher point with his ideas and playing. Moreover we deal with an non innovative but very good and skilled singer, who helps the whole effort. Highlights of "Fallen Sanctuary" would be "Derelict" "Velatum" (both remind me of Blind Guardian especially during the chorus),"Sheltered (By The Obscure)" (closer to Kamelot’s mood and epic enough), "Coldness Kills" (a slower tempo song, with a very emotional performance by the vocalist of the group) and "Rust Of Coming Ages" (with a chorus which sticks in your mind). As a conclusion I would recommend this release to everybody who is into Symphonic Power Metal, as it has to offer some great moments, combined with catchy refrains, good arrangements and melodic songs in general. "Fallen Sanctuary" will also be available in digipack edition, including a bonus track "Journey’s End".\r\n
