SEVENTH ANGEL - The dust of Years

\r\nFinally the Seventh Angel sounded his horn not from the endless heavens but from the very depths of hell spitting out haunted melodies entwined in bizarre crawling riffs, followed by demonic choirs. That’s the message that the British “Seventh Angel” bring us with their third album making sure that as long as their doom/death/black last, there will be no rest for all the damned souls out there. Though the band is active from 1987 in a time where Black metal started to become popular in the underground, has only 3 full length releases but somehow managed to keep this occult spirit of that time alive through the passing of years. “The dust of Years” has all those elements that would make a Black metal album popular back in the day but all are given through a more modern production including some “alien” elements since in some parts there is a Gothic/doom essence dominating the songs. From a brief listening to the album I ended up thinking that “Seventh Angel” manage to catch the atmosphere of “My Dying Bride” and early “Amorphis” while in some compositions the frenzied rhythms reminded me of “Celtic Frost” escorted by dark gloomy keys. The compositions themselves are infested with various sounds while the constant change of rhythm and the invading melodies in the songs manage to keep the listener interested. This is without doubt recommended to all the Black metal fans out there who got sick of listening to albums sounding just like Dark Throne’s “Transilvanian Hunger”!\r\n
