Treponem Pal - Weird Machine
Treponem Pal - Weird Machine
Treponem Pal is a big chapter in the French music scene. They were born in 1986 but untill recently they remained inactive. Weird Machine is their new album which marks their new beginning, as Treponem Pal are back again and they offer us a strange mixture of influences from many different musical forms. BUt is the result satisfying or not? Personally I didn’t expect much more from the band. Their previous albums had shown which their abilities were and up to where they could reach. Weird Machine isn’t that impressive nor is there anything exciting in it. The group continues playing what used to before disbanding, but now they try to add a more contemporary touch which personally I didn’t like. We could say that this is an industrial band that things aren’t that simple since we can spot out several musical genres and I think the description of the promo is the most appropriate: "Industrially toxic, Metallic, Electronic, Ethnic, Electric, Psychedelic, Hypnotic and always more Eclectic". Their songs are not that easy to listen to and that’s because sometimes they get boring and repetitive. Ministry, Faith No More and Nine Inch Nails influences are the most dominant the group however has its own Avant-garde style which didn’t really "touch" me. The album has some good moments with nice melodies and paranoid vocals but from then on things get a bit dull. Overall, Weird Machine is a strange and pretty mediocre album. My opinion is that this band had offered everything they could in the past and today they just live on the remainings of the past. If you are in to Industrial Avant-garde sound then you could check out Weirs Machine and you may find something interesting in it.
