Witchfinder General - Resurrected
Witchfinder General - Resurrected
I ve been always believing that the day that I would be the proud owner of a new full length release from Britain’s Witchfinder General wont come. As many of you already know, this is the first full length release of the band after “Friends Of Hell” LP back in 1983. Twenty five years have passed and the waiting is much more than great, having also in mind that the trademark singer of the band Zeeb Parkes left the band after the release of their last album back in 1984, I believe that the most of the audience is more than curious to find out how Witchfinder General sound today, on this new album.
\r\nSo, the album wise entitled “Resurrection” has been released via “Buried By Time and Dust Records”. During the 43 minutes that the album lasts, we surely listen to some pure Witchfinder General music, that will probably meet the expectations and the long waiting of the bands fans. Pure heavy / doom with the classic elements of N.W.O.B.H.M. as Witchfinder General once introduced to us all. Extremely heavy riffing by Phil Cope and the whole production brought straight from the old glorious days of the band. To this fact a major role has the production that sounds really ”raw”. The level of compositions is really average, as use to be back in the 80’s with some really great moments like “Final Justice”, “Brutal Existence”, “Euthanasia” και “The funeral / Beyond The Grave”. But the whole album is in a average composing level.
\r\nBut the one thing I tried not to mention previously is something that I cant avoid to mention…. So let’s talk about the new singer Vocals…
\r\nIn the vocals parts for sure I really missed Parkes. Without the vocals of Martin being bad, Zeeb’ voice was the trademark of Witchfinder General along with Cope’s riffing and this is a fact. I know that the comparison between Zeeb and Martin is unfair for Martin but I really cant’ help it.
\r\nSo here we got an album that sounds like the old, glorious days and reminds us of an era where music was true , the bands were original and the audience negative to anything “not metal”. So “Resurrection” is an album that MUST be listened for many reasons.
