ZEMIAL - In Monumentum
ZEMIAL - In Monumentum
\r\nIt has been a while since this album came to light. Because I didn’t have the chance to hear the album when it was released and as a result I didn’t write a review, I do it now, as it’s never too late to introduce good albums, albums which deserve it. Zemial, as the most of you know, are from Greece, and they are from the oldest bands of the scene. In the period where bands like otting Christ, Thou Art Lord, Necromantia, Vrathron etc appeared, Zemial were present by their own way. May the "In Monumentum" be only their second complete release, but this doesn;t matter. Let’s leave the introductions and go ahead, namely the content of the album. In 2005, when our beloved Quorthon passed away, Vorskaath, founder member and composer of Zemial, decided to create an album, which was dedicated to Quorthon. He didn’t make what the most would do, which means to release a tribute album with versions, but he composed 7 songs, which are influenced from Bathory and each note reminds us of this big band. The album "In Monumentum" is exactly what Vorskaath had in his mind and its title reveals, is a homage to Quorthon. To make things clear, it is good to explain that we don;t have an album, in which we will hear songs which are a copy of Bathory. We have a completely different work, in which Zemial have put their own stigma. The albums contains of 7 songs, which are entirely melodic and atmospheric, so epic and "black", while in each moment there is something appealing to the listener. Amazing melodies, which remind us "Hammerheart" of Bathory and in general epic songs and of course many black elements make up this result. Soem choral elements are here as well, which are discrete and not tiring. The vocals vary, as we find many pure and black metal vocals, where they shoyld be. The stongest characteristic of the band is the excellent solos, which can be heard from anybody. What I liked is that the album doesn’t last so long (37 min) and this time pass so pleasant, so the listener never gets bored. The production of the album may not be so good, but it is exactly as it shall be! I shall confess that, when I hear something I want the production to be a diamond. There are occasios, however - like this one - where the production must be more "free", in order to travel us into the past and remind us the diamonds which were released from some bands of this genre. I don’t have anything else to say. i wish Zemial obtain the aknowledgemet they deserve..If you want to hear an epic / atmospheric and an extreme creation as well, which has its origins in the past but was created in 2006, then check "In Monumentum" without doubt!\r\n
