BEHEMOTH
Behemoth is one of the best Death Metal bands nowadays. We had the opportunity to talk with Nergal, the founding member of the band, and here is what he said... \r\n
\r\n \r\n
\r\n \r\n
\r\nHello there. First of all, I want you to tell me what’s the response to your latest album "Demigod".
\r\nWhat can I say? People simply loved that record. Wherever we go, there’s extremely positive feedback. I’ve never expected this record to go that farand surprisingly it’s still going...\r\n
\r\n
\r\nIn my opinion, this is the best Behemoth album cause I believe that it combines everything that a Death Metal album should have. Power, aggression, hate, brutality and last but not least an excellent production. Do you agree with it?
\r\nWell, this and more I hope... I’ve always tried to be very flexible when it comes to music. Any music to be honest. It’s all about the variety of things. I love when it’s intense, brutal and still intelligent you know... Just like I am! hahahaha!!\r\n
\r\n
\r\nDemigd has something different than the other albums. To tell the truth, it’s typical Behemoth album with all the elements we know and separates Behemoth from the other Death Metal bands, but it has something new if you know what I mean... Something that there isn’t in your previous albums. Do you believe that it’s good for a musician to put new elements into his music?
\r\nAnything that makes you happy about what you do is good. I don’t really care about any creteria, or rules... I set my own rules for the music I make and it gives me satisfaction. But of korz it’s just me and my opinion. I bet there are many different ones but well... can’t satisfy everyone. It’s me, my ambitions, my aspirations to be fulfiled in the first place. \r\n
\r\n
\r\nWhich is the most important part of Behemoth? Melody or brutality? It’s obvious that this album is more melodic than the others.
\r\nAs I said, many factors make this music unique I think. Yes. it’s more melodic but than, it’s so obvious that this album is more everything than before, if you know what I mean. If we were slow and heavy before, we pushed these limits on "Demigod". If we were fast we went even faster on this new record and this is what makes this album so... good, and hopefully better than old ones.\r\n
\r\n
\r\nThere is a guest appearance of Karl Sanders of Nile in one song. Could you please tell me about this co-operation?
\r\nIt was really fast and well done affair! haha! I dropped a line to Karl asking if he’d like to be a part of this record. He responded immediately and his answer was positive. He was actually very enthusiastic about this idea. I think he did an excellent solo and it worked just perfect for the final come out... \r\n
\r\n
\r\nLet’s suppose that someone out there has no idea about Demigod. How would you describe the album to him in order to buy it? In other words, which are the selling points?
\r\nIt’s highly entertaining, quality extreme Metal music with lots of emotions and creative potential. \r\n
\r\n
\r\nWhy did you choose the song "Conquer All" for the video? Could you please give some details about it?
\r\nWell, you know, in a way this song is really groove, has this drive in it which makes it more... acceptable for people. We decided it’s gonna be the first single from the album coz it’s the song which is kinda easy to dig into. Now we filmed another video for "Slaves Shall Serve" and I can assure you that this one is even better, more insane and blasphemous than "Conquer All" which already was a good video. Check out the new one man! It will have its air play in September!\r\n
\r\n
\r\nAre you happy with the co-operation with Regain Records?
\r\nOh sure man! They do a great job for us. We are one of label’s priorities ans they truly support us. There is also this kind of friendship relation too, not just business you know... I like it better that way. You see, it’s just more comfortable when you can just call your boss on his mobile phone and discuss the problem on the phone... It’s not that formal. And then we still keep pretty high margin of freedom. We are not... chained to the label. We pretty much control what’s going on. That’s good partnership I have to say. \r\n
\r\n
\r\nLet’s talk about Behemoth in general now... Is there a kind of philosophy in your music and in the band generally?
\r\nOh sure man! There is this eclectic philosophy that captures different influences from many cultures / philosophical systems. Behemoth is multidimensional and it’s really clear when you read the lyrics for instance. We like the fact that this band is so open... and we are not slaves to one ideology. It’s important to keep the band refreshed. \r\n
\r\n
\r\nYou recently released a DVD. Could you please tell us some things about it?
\r\nHa ha it’s just insane! Watch it and I’m sure you’re gonna love it. It was just disgusted by all the boring DVDs that came out recently in the market. Most of this stuff is just dull... I decided to show how the real band / touring life is with all it’s advantages and disadvantages you know... \r\n
\r\n
\r\nAs I saw, there is a tour on September with Nile, Unleashed, Incantation and Blood Red Throne. In my opinion, that’s very nice because we don’t have the opportunity very often to see true Metal shows with true Death Metal bands in Greece. How do you feel about this festival?
\r\nIt sucks. Last time we played there was...what, 1-2 years ago with Carpathian Forest and it was killer. The best Greek show for us so far. It’s just pitty that not many metal tours reach Greece. Dunno why. We’ll do our best to get back there as soon as there’s opportunity. I give you my word!\r\n
\r\n
\r\nWe will wait for you soon...I would like to thank you for the interview and the final words belongs to you... Cheers!
\r\nKeep it Metal and stay strong! We will return!!!
