ONE WAY MIRROR - Franck Potvin

\r\nONE-WAY MIRROR is a brand new rock metal band on the verge of\r\ntriggering a revolution in the world of music. The band was created in\r\n2006 when five close friends decided to join forces to create the\r\nultimate rock metal band: Guillaume Bideau (Mnemic), David and Franck\r\nPotvin (Lyzanxia, Phaze I), Dirk Verbeuren (Soilwork) and Loic Colin\r\n(Scarve, Watcha). Given the chance with the release of their self titled debut album we interviewed the band’s rhythm guitarist Franck Potvin. Here is what he had to say.. \r\n

\r\n

\r\nMetalzone:First of all, lets begin by giving a brief biography of the band. How were you formed and why did you choose this name?
\r\nFranck:Hi my friend! We know each other for ten years now and we are close friends. Guillaume, Loic and Dirk used to play in Scarve and my brother and I play in Lyzanxia. We shared a lot of stages with these bands. Two years ago, Guillaume called us to form a new band. We wanted to do something catchy and play the music we like. We took the name ‘One-Way Mirror’ because cops bust us during the recording and we were waiting behind a One-Way Mirror for 3 hours!
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone:Please describe me the genre you are presenting? Do you feel you’re being innovative creating a new style of music?
\r\nFranck: We play something powerful, catchy and melodic. Dude, this album is the best of your collection! When you compose a song, even if you are really influenced, it’s always innovative!
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Tell us about your debut album. What inspired you to write it? What themes do you touch? How was the recording process? Are you satisfied with the result? Would you change anything about it?
\r\nFranck: That’s a really long question hahahaha! Well, Yes we are really satisfied with the result... and no we don’t want to change anything on this album. Guillaume and David produced it. Except for the drums as Dan Bergstrand at the Dug Out Studio in Sweden engineered it and we mixed at the Antfarm studio with Tue Madsen! We recorded the guitars, bass, vocals, anal sounds, screams of dying dogs sounds in our studios in France. So it was really easy. No fucking pressure of time, no stress except for buying alcohol on Sunday! You know, the recording was more like a big party. We had a lot of fun. The result is an album really honest with a massive sound.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: How easy was it signing a record deal with a label such as MetalBlade? Are you satisfied with your co operation?
\r\nFranck: How easy?! First you have to record the album of the year and then send a copy to Metal Blade, hahaha! We are really happy to work with Metal Blade. They are really cool, professional, motivated... that’s, for me, the best metal label!
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: What is the feedback you’ve gotten so far from both the press and the fans?

\r\nFranck: For the press, the feedback is really cool. In France we cover a big magazine and we also cover Daily Rock in Switzerland, which is the biggest rock newspaper out there. About fans, we can see our fan base growing up day after day through our myspace www.myspace.com/onewaymirrorband. We have 2 myspace fan pages. One in France, which is done by the chief of the street team and one in Australia!
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Are you planning to tour in support of the release?
\r\nFranck: Of course, we’re going to tour as much as possible. We love touring and we’re ready to rock your ass!
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Give us some of the places and dates.
\r\nFranck: We have few gigs in France, Belgium and Spain. Our booker is working on that now!
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Are you already processing a new album? Any ideas?
\r\nFranck: Before doing another album, we have to promote this one and then we have to work on our other bands (Mnemic, Lyzanxia, Phaze I). The next One-Way Mirror album will come as soon as the promotion of the first one is finished. And yes, we already have few ideas about the music!
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: What inspires you to write music?
\r\nFranck: For this album, the Alcohol has inspired us! When we’re composing a One-Way mirror song, we always want to do something really catchy, powerful with a great vocal line, which stuck in you mind!
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: What influences do you have?
\r\nFranck: Everything, which is good! We are really open mind. We listen to every kind of music: Metal, Rock, Pop, HipHop, Electro…
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: What music do you listen to?
\r\nFranck: Today, I’m listening to the new Portishead and the new Meshuggah !
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Is there an artist you wish you can work with in the future?
\r\nFranck: We would love to have the Italian actor Rocco Siffredi for our next video. And for the music I would love to work with Lemmy of course!
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Thank you for your time and I wish you all the best in the future
\r\nFranck: Thanks for your time! Check out One-Way Mirror and see you on the road!\r\n
