SHEVER - Nadine

Metalzone: Well, First of All I want to congratulate you and the rest of the band for you first and latest release "ocean of illusions" Tell us a few words about shEver
\r\n

\r\nNadine: shEver was founded in early 2003 by Jessica (git) and Melanie (drums). In summer 2003, I (Nadine, bass) joined the band and we began to write songs and to search for a brutal female singer. We did found Alex (voice) in early 2004. Since summer 2007, we have a new girl on the drums (Sarah), because Melanie decided to leave the band for personal reasons in july 2007.
\r\nThe name “shEver” comes from the English word “shiver”, and it’s as well sort of word game with “she” and “ever”.
\r\nLater we found out that the word “shever” does exist in Israel, and it’s the name of a person of the tribe of Judas (in the bible)….
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: How Happen and the Whole line – up consist only of women?
\r\n
\r\nNadine: I think that there are some emotions that only women can feel and express. That’s why I always wanted to have an all-girl-band.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Which are your main influences?
\r\n
\r\nNadine :
Crowbar, Neurosis, Grief, Black Sabbath, Alice In Chains
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Give us some information about the “Ocean Of illusions”
\r\n
\r\nNadine: The album was recorded in may/june 2006 at Basel City Studios with Dave Ponzio. Dave as well do the mixing and mastering have at his home studio until the end of 2006. After we were searching for a label, but we didn’t found what we are looking for. In spring 2007, we decided to release the album on our own. No fucking need of a bullshit label J
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone : Who is the main composer and lyricist?
\r\n
\r\nNadine :We all do compose the songs. There is often someone showing a riff or just an idea, then we are trying to complete the song. It’s a very long song writing process, but it’s great that all members can really bring in their ideas. We are no one-man-project, but a band with four members!
\r\nFor the lyrics, it’s a bit different, as you can’t really write lyrics together – at least I do think that it doesn’t lead to a good result. I do write lots of lyrics, and Alex writes as well. “An illusion”, the opener of the album, is the only song written by Melanie, our ex-drummer.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: How did people react, about the album? Also tell us the reaction of the Press if you mind
\r\n
\r\nNadine : The reactions are mostly positive. People don’t expect that four women are doing such brutal and dark sound, far away of every pop appeal. Almost every review is very good and we are proud of our work. It’s maybe a bit ironic that the best reviews aren’t from our own country, but from abroad, like Holland, Greece, Austria, Germany etc. Swiss people are always too neutral to have a real opinion, hahaha.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: How Difficult is to be a self financed band?
\r\n
\r\nNadine : For sure it’s difficult because there is no one giving you money for recording an album, for doing promotion, for getting gigs and financing a tour. But there are also a lot of advantages, like you are not depending of some shitty label boss who wants to tell you when and how to make an album, and all of the money from the gigs, the sold CDs and shirts etc. goes directly to our cashbox.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone : I saw some pictures from the release party you gave and you all dressed as nuns (?). Is this going to be your stage outfit or it was only for that show? Who came up with the Idea?
\r\n

\r\nNadine : Haha, yes, but dressing up as nuns was a unique occasion for the release concert. We will not wear these dresses again. The idea came from a guy doing the live mix at one of our gigs in Switzerland, about one year ago. First, we all took it for a stupid joke, but as we began to plan our cd release concert, someone came up with this idea again and we all agreed.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Are there any plans for forthcoming gigs?
\r\n
\r\nNadine: Yes! We will play 2 gigs in Switzerland in January and February, then 2 concerts in Belgium, and after we will play in Austria. You can find all our concerts on www.shever.ch or www.myspace.com/sheverdoom
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: As we previously said you are a self-financed band, and you have also the distribution of the CD. In which countries you have sent the album?
\r\n
\r\nNadine : Until now, the CD is of course in Switzerland, and as well in Germany (at www.grau.cd). But the CD is available from everywhere in the world, and can be ordered at www.shever.ch
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Which country of them seems to be more excited with the album?
\r\n
\r\nNadine :
Difficult to say. But sure not in Switzerland hahaha. From countries in Europe we have good opinions, especially Germany, Holland, Belgium, and of course Greece.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone :Are there any plans for next release?
\r\n

\r\nNadine : No, not yet. Due to the new drummer since August, the tour in September and some other concerts, we hadn’t a lot of time to write new songs. And without label, there is no stress. But in 2008 we will be creative again J And there are some plans to do a split single with My Shameful through Firebox records.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Have you happened to read a review for the latest album that really made you mad?
\r\n
\r\nNadine: No, not until now. Maybe people are afraid of us, and think that we would bewitch them if they would write some things about our CD hahaha.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: How happened to play the violin in the album (and in the shows), have you taken violin lessons?
\r\n
\r\nNadine: Yes, I play violin since the age of 8, and took lessons until I was 18. It was my first instrument ever learned.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: A couple of Days before I read on your blog, that a ‘zine refuse (?) to post an interview that made to you. Would you mind telling us what happen (If you feel uneasy with that, just omit the name of the zine and the editor)
\r\n
\r\nNadine: No, I will tell it openly to you. It’s an online zine called bassgirls.com, the interviewer is from Ireland. So he sent me the questions and I answered them, but suddenly he refused to publish it because he saw that on my profile on shEver’s website I had the sentence “sex, drugs and music” with a smiley behind it. He acted like an idiot priest who wanted to tell me how to live and he said that my fans would imitate these bad things if they would read this sentence etc….
\r\nBut on the other side, he puts up pics of half-naked bassplaying girls… so long… that’s about Francis of bassgirls.com…hahaha….
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: What music Nadine likes to listen to these days?
\r\n
\r\nNadine:
Hm, to a lot of music! I don’t listen only to doom, but of course I need from time to time a good quantity of doom J my favourite bands are Grief, Crowbar, Samhain, Danzig, Neurosis, Nine Inch Nails, Johnny Cash, Moonspell, Rotting Christ, Monster Magnet, Moonspell, The Mission…. But this list could go on and on…
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Tell us little things about the Swiss underground metal scene. Any good bands that you think that people must check out?
\r\n
\r\nNadine:
The swiss underground metal scene is quite big for the little size of our country, but there are mostly death metal and grindcore bands, and we don’t really fit into this style of music. So for us it’s difficult to find a band to play with that really fits. The audience is more into the faster brutal styles, and often we hear that we are “boring and way too slow”… but then we tell them that they just can’t FEEL the music.
\r\nSome swiss doom bands that are worth to mention and to check out are Palmer, Phased, Zatokrev, Lord Of The Grave.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: The music of ShEver, which type of metal fans has appreciated the most?
\r\n
\r\nNadine: Sure not the death metal fans hahaha. Maybe the punks and the black metal fans, and mostly the alternative stoner people.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: As a bassist that you are, have you got any favorite bass players?
\r\n
\r\nNadine:
No, but I was told that I look like Cliff Burton on stage. J and I really do love the technique of Steve Harris and the sound of Todd Strange.
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Do you like any Greek metal band? How do you feel about Greece?
\r\n

\r\nNadine: As mentioned above, Rotting Christ is one of my favourite bands. Nightfall is another band that I know. And I do like the country as well, I was there 3 times in holidays, and always loved it – the weather and the sea of course, and the food isn’t bad either. I am not so much addicted to ouzo, but I will drink one with you when we will come to Greece for a gig J
\r\n
\r\nMetalzoe: Are there any plans to Visit Greece for a gig?
\r\n
\r\nNadine: No plans yet, but we would of course love to play some gigs in Greece!
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: How can your fans order your CD?
\r\n
\r\nNadine:
Just go to www.shever.ch, then you will find a sheet to order the CD from wherever you live on this world!
\r\n
\r\nMetalzone: Thank you Very much Nadine for the inteview. Would you please give a personal message from Nadine and ShEver to all your Greek Fans?
\r\n
\r\nNadine: Let the music be passion, pain and emotions, and let this music enter your mind.
\r\nFAST IS LIGHT, HEAVY IS SLOW
