Opeth @ Mylos Apothiki Thessaloniki

\r\nI am sitting in front of my PC and thinking about what I could write for Opeth after their concert, as far as it has to do with their live performance, and conclude that not matter what I write it will never be enough. Opeth is a superb combo with great music, with perfect performance and a "must audience" band . Now, regarding Akerfeldt’s humour...it is better to put aside  for the moment. But let us see what happened at "Mylos" on Saturday evening.
\r\n
\r\nThe time was 19:15. I was already standing outside "Mylos" with about 100 others and waiting patiently in front of the entrance. Of course, at 19:30, the doors didn’t open, as it was written on the ticket but the "redemption" came at 19:52, when the firsts of the crowd entered the main hall. Something must be done with this Greek Maybe Time (aka GMT) and the promoters must start being pantcual. Thank Metal that the wheater was great on Saturday, but what if ti was raining? The answer is yours.
\r\n
\r\nAfter I got myself inside the hall, I was watching how fast it got crowded. Gradually, the hall was filled almost at 80% of its capacity. However, the scene remained empty.... and I was wondering why the promoters did not include a support band also. Do not forget that the ticket price was 33 euro! and there was only Opeth, while other live shows with the same ticket price, a couple of euros more or less,  included 2 or 3 support bands.
\r\n
\r\nFinally the show started around 21:15 when the Swedish metallers started with "Heir Apparent". The crowd was just in a panic mode. The audience was carried away by the long lengthed melodies, they were like vampires that satisfied their thirst after a long time :P . The band’s performance was awesome. Their performance was perfect and Akenfeldt’s vocals were crystal clear, either is. The sound engineers did a fine job, and we should use their know how for a seminar, in other theGreek sound engineers finally find out how the job is done.
\r\n
\r\nThe rest of the show was as I expected. The crowd was passionate on one hand and on the other the band did their best to satisfy us. All this of course Ankenfeldt started talking. Some of his jokes were good, but unfortunately most of his speech was dissapointing. The worst part was when they started to play "Bleak"... and they quit it after thirty seconds.. Such mistakes must not be made .... The crowd was frustrated and counteract cries were heard. Then Michael continued talking in order to impress us, but all his effort was in vain. Better to sing than to talk. :P
\r\n
\r\nIn conclusion Opeth proved for once more that when they play their music manage to delight the audience. It was an enjoyable experience, apart from the two hours waiting issue and the joking failure that cost us a couple of songs. Fortunately, most of the left the hall satisfied and this is the most important. Hopefully, I wish next time Opeth come to Greece, we will listen to more music and less cold stand up comedy jokes.\r\n
