Disavowed - Stagnated Existence
\r\n Disavowed is a Holland band playing brutal technical death metal inspired by bands like Morbid Angel, Suffocation and Dying Fetus. "Stagnated Existence" is their sophomore album and it is released via Dutch Neurotic Records containing 10 tracks of pure death metal feast.
\r\n Guitar-wise, there is a tight guitar work, with plenty of midpaced groove and crunch and crushing, multidimensional riffs that the one follows the other, increasing the palpable tension until occasionally erupting into a twisted guitar solo. Of course there are also the grooving breakdowns reminding of early Suffocation and lots of technical rhythm changes. The drumming of Romain Goulon is intense with devastating breakdowns and blastbeats mixing blasts, insane double bass work, and random drum fills. The only problem with the drums is that sometimes they seem too low in the mix. Vocal-wise, Robbe Kok’s guttural rumble is really nice (!!??!!) although except the low guttural style he also uses a higher pitched screamed style, which would most likely be heard on any grind release in the manner of Dying Fetus.
\r\n So musically there is nothing wrong with this release. Brutal death metal aimed to please any die-hard fan of the genre. Yet compositionally it is nothing more than recycled, all heard before stuff that after a point gets rather repetitious. Therefore the question is this. Who really needs a brutal death album that sounds like already innumerable albums before? Disavowed is a band that its music gives nothing special or important to the genre, no own handwriting or recognition characteristics but only a band that is one of many…If you belong to the hardcore devotees of the genre, then you will enjoy this release but after the cd is over you will probably forget all about it. If you are starting now to listen to this genre and know nothing about bands like Suffocation, Immolation, Dying Fetus or Baphomet then you will find this album thrilling.
\r\n Because I got really troubled about the rating that I should give, although as I mentioned above this album isn’t bad at all, on the contrary it represents a typical tribute to the genre of brutal death metal, so in the end I decided to rate it as far as its originality and importance. If you however are not interested in those two factors just ignore the rate and invest in this effort fearlessly. \r\n
