The Gates Of Slumber - Conqueror
\r\nThis is the third full length release, after “The Awakening” (2004) and “Suffer No Guilt” (2006) efforts by the US (Indianapolis) based Doom metal outfit, entitled “Conqueror”. Of course during these years except the full length releases, Gates Of Slumber counts many Split 7’’, Split CD’s, EP’s and of course a great collection (“Villain Villain” 2007) with some alternative versions, demo versions and cover songs (Saint Vitus, Manilla Road)
\r\nEven from the first hearing a fan of the band realizes that there’s something different in this album, in comparison with their previous efforts. The composing ability of the band seems to reach a higher level and the vocals production sounds greater than before.
\r\nBut let’s talk about the album, which sounds to me like an oasis of pureness in comparison with many of the lates releases I happened to hear. Traditional mid – tempo heavy metal, with some great riffs, wile the tempo seems to vary from more up tempo tracks like “Trapped in A Web” to more down tempo , doomy tracks close to the sound of Saint Vitus and The Obsessed, with some psychedelic passages like “Eyes Of The Lair”
\r\nPersonally I tend to believe that the time has come for these Americans to count them selves amongst the pantheon of True Doom Metal , and with releases like “Conquer” you can judge by your own listening the LP.
\r\nI ‘d like also to mention that this is the third release of the band so far for the present year after the split 7’’ release with Crowning Glory where The Gates Of Slumber did a great cover version of Manilla Road’s epic, “Riddle Master” and the EP “The Ice Worm’s Lair”
