Amorphis - Skyforger

\r\nSeems that during the last 3 years Amorphis’s songwriting ability has reached its peak. After their latest releases “Eclipse” and “Silent Waters” I really wasn’t expecting them to release something better. Well thankfully “Skyforger” came out to prove me wrong. One more time based on the finnish epic poem “Kalevala” Amorphis offer 10 excelent compositions satisfying even the most demanding of their fans. At this point we could say that “Skyforger” continues the tale of “Silent Waters” both musically and lyrically. The compositions are divided into equal melodic and powerful parts (although melodies seem to be the main ingredient) having as a result a variety of sounds through which the Poem comes alive.
\r\n Tomi Joutsen’s singing is stunning in both brutal/growls and melodic vocal lines as well. The solos are overflowing of emotion while the solid rhythm section along with the folk melodies on the keyboards carry the listener away on a misty journey.
\r\nAmorphis, as bards of our time are unfolding a mystical world weaved with heroic deeds and tragic endings.
\r\nI will not comment on each song separately since I think that each one is strongly connected to the other, completing it, just like the chapters of “Kalevala”. Besides that I can’t avoid mentioning “Silver Bride”, which is the band’s official video for the new album, as one of the best tracks they have ever wrote.
\r\nOnce again Amorphis managed to give us another masterpiece proving that for some bands out there inspiration is limitless.
