Annihilator - Metal

Annihilator - Metal

\r\nWhen you are someone like Jeff Waters, when you have proved in the past that you can write disks that would remain classic, when you dedicate a entire year in order to compose an album and of course when you have so many names as guests in your new album, then the result if it not a killer, at least it must be heard with a huge amount of pleasure. The new album of Annihilator therefore, which brings the very simple title Metal, we couldn’t say that it is a usual outcome for the band since what is dominant here is dullness despite all the names that participate which are many. More analytically, each track of the album has also one guest. The names that frame the album are the following: Jeff Loomis (Nevermore), Danko Jones (Killswitch Engage), Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy), Steve Kudlow (Anvil), Alexis Laiho (Children Of Bodom), Anders Bjorler (The Haunted), Michael Amott (Arch Enemy, Spiritual Beggars), Jesper Stromblad (In Flames), Corey Beaulieu (Trivium), Jacob Lynam (Lynam) and Willie Adler (Lamb Of God). Therefore it is very reasonable with so many personalities in this album that the result should be astonishing but unfortunately what we really receive is plenty of common riffs in a tragic way, that we have heard many times before not only from Annihilator themselves (since a lot of moments will remind you similar ones from older albums), but also from the Metal scene generally. The compositions are by no means without imagination and with no inspiration at all, while all the pieces are constituted from one, maximum two riffs which exist throughout the duration of the album and the listener waits in vain for some change, just for the monotony to burst. The other negative thing in the album, at my opinion, is the fact that the songs appear to be played without sentiment and simply give you the impression that they are written only for the purpose of the release itself. Unfortunately this is not the Annihilator of the past. It’s not the Annihilator that with each disk that they released panic was at hand, neither is the band that made us shiver, if not with all, at least with most of the tracks of their albums. Therefore considering it is a pointless thing dealing further with this album, I will simply add that even the production is not good when everything that stays in the end is a darkish effect and even in this sector dullness dominates as well. The fans of Annihilator can check out this work only if they do not want to have a query for the new album, while all the rest can deal with the older albums of the band.\r\n
