FALCHION - Chronicles Of The Dead
FALCHION - Chronicles Of The Dead
\r\nFalchion is Finish melodic death/Viking metal band featuring Korpiklaani members Juno Kauppinen (vocals, guitar) and Matti Johansson (drums) formed back in 2002. The rest of the line up – changed completely in 2006 - is completed by Miikka Tulimaki on the guitar and Janne Kielinen on the bass. Chronicles Of The Dead is their second album, the first one after their freshly signed record deal with Massacre records. Having received very good feedback even from their debut album Legacy Of Heathens back in 2005 they are now ready to present a new more mature album.

\r\nChronicles Of The Dead is a guitar driven album, with very well established melodies and very catchy riffs dipped in a folkish spice which makes the result very good in my opinion. Of course being in the genre of Viking metal, it’s inevitable to remind you of the pioneers Amon Amarth but instead of falling into the trap of being a copycat Falchion add their own style which makes them distinctive. Vocals are less of a protagonist. In my opinion the leading role in this album is given to guitars which at times seem to be speak louder than lyrics.

\r\nThe album is consisted of 9 tracks. The ones I distinguished are the title track Chronicles Of The Dead, Shadows In the Wasteland which is very melodic and the folk element very vibrant and catchy, Desert Breeze where the guitar solos leave you almost speechless, Dying Dreams and Evolution In Reverse. Mastering duties were handled by Mika Jussila in Finnox Studios in Helsinki. Recording and mixing took place in Adamantium Studios in Tampere, Finland during March 2008. The release is expected on September 26th and shortly after that they will accomplish their first European tour called Finnish Fire during November and December 2008 with Korpiklaani, Battlelore and Kivimetsδn druidi. There are already some confirmed dates. Falchion will also perform at Ragnarφk Festival in Germany in April 2009. For those of you into the style – melodic death/Viking metal- it is an album you mustn’t miss. \r\n
