The Illusion Fades - Killing Ages

The Illusion Fades - Killing Ages

\r\nThese guys are many years around. They started back in 1990 and 2009’s ‘’Killing Ages’’ is their sixth album. With Guests like Jan Barkved (Elusive) and Tristessa (Astarte) they have big plans with this release. And they should.
\r\nThey are indeed now experienced musicians and songwriters. The production is perfect and the songs are as tight as it should. They are generous with the melodies and most of the songs are pretty memorable with nice catchy refrains. At the same time they try (successful) to combine all the basic elements of gothic rock with the gothic metal genre we all loved during its 90’s golden period. As a result don’t be surprised if this cd wakes up memories of Theater of Tragedy, Tiamat even Rotting Christ’s ‘’gothy’’ moments (Dead poem, Sleep of the Angels). Their musical base is of course bands like The Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, Fields of the Nephilim and the tradition and style that this genre carries. These elements are very well mixed mainly with Theatre of Tragedy and Type o Negative. But don’t get confused. You‘ll find variety of sounds here and above all ‘’The Illusion Fade’s’’ musical identity. They are mixing almost everything without losing their musical stigma. In ‘’gothica’’ you’ll feel Dani Filth influences (in the vocal style that it’s used). Honestly I don’t have any suggestions or flaws on this one. This album delivers whats promised. Gothic rock and metal at its best. Nobody will understand that this is a Greek band; everything here is professional and made to last.  Giorgos Dede’s beautiful voice, the opening ‘’13th Day’’ (it could easily be ‘The 69 eye’s’ hit single) and the ‘The Christmas Song’ are the high picks of a great album.\r\n
