Leave's Eyes - Meredead

\r\nThat’s the fourth full length album for the band of Liv Kristene Espenaes Krull (Theatre Of Tragedy) and her husband’s Alex Krull (Atrocity).
\r\nGenerally the album is brimming with folk elements given through a heavy approach. Comparing “Meredead” with their previous releases I spot some differences like the choruses in some of the songs like the self titled, “Spirits’ Masquerade” and “Sigrlinn” something that makes them sound a bit more symphonic reminding me of Nightwish. Alex Krull’s vocals are a bit limited here, so we assume that Liv has taken over. Another difference is that there are more Norwegian songs on this one something that makes the sound even more traditional.
\r\nLiv’s voice is once more stunning as she sings with passion and power on most of the songs, unfortunately I can’t claim this for all the songs because excluding "Spirits’ Masquerade" and some of the ballads like “Tell-tale Eyes”, her performance sounds a bit stiff.  Though Krull is known to compose some really powerful stuff, on this one I think he made an exception as the songs sound a bit low, lacking power and heaviness.
\r\nAlthough the cover on the classic Mike Oldfield’s “To France” sounds powerful and there are some heavy touches here and there, the whole album sounds weak to my ears.
\r\nAs a whole "Meredead" left me with mixed emotions, sometimes the songs are powerful and other times despite Liv’s excellent voice they don’t seem to make any impression to the listener. If you wanna give it a try, go ahead, I had my share of their work.
