Midnattsol (Midnight Sun In Norwegian) is a band that consists of the Germans Daniel Droste και Chris R. Hector (Ahab), and the Norwegian Carmen Elise Espanæs (sister of Liv Kristine Espanæs Krull). Having already a release in the back catalogue
\r\n(“Where Twilight Dwells” 2005) return with a new effort entitled “Nordlys”.
\r\nAs the band states, their music can be characterized as “Nordic Folk Metal”, but seems not to be so different from the other Female fronted bands of this sub – genre. The only difference I managed to find is that in specific parts the guitars play some very good riffs, but when the “ethereal” voice comes on, the listener realizes that is just another typical band of this sub genre.
\r\nThe albums features nine tracks (ten on the Limited Edition) that sound so close one to each other, with a couple of exceptions like “Skogens Lengsel” that has a very good riffage and it is groovy enough. In the album there are many acoustic parts that the only thing that help is to make advantage of the singer’s operatic Voice.
\r\nIn general the “Nordlys” album isn’t that bad, especially for a listener that is a fan of this sub genre, I found many interesting parts, especially when Espanæs is not singing
