Nova Orbis - Imago

Nova Orbis - Imago

\r\nSouth America seems to really love progressive metal. The last time I heard a South American band playing was RC2’s wonderful album, “Future Awaits”. These guys came from Venezuela. In the case of Nova Orbis we have a Colombian band mixing the strength of metal sounds, the magic and mystery of gothic and the dynamics and complexity of progressive music. In my opinion, we’ll have to add some folk elements to this mix.\r\n

\r\nNova Orbis manage to make a pretty good combination of different influences and kinds and this is proved by the fact that there isn’t a exclusive composer in this band but all of the band’s members have contributed to the final outcome which to my surprise is, at least, noticeable. Fans of Theatre Of Tragedy, Dream Theater, Rhapsody of Fire and Within Temptation will find elements and influences of these bands in N.O.’s music. With the exception of a meaningless ballad, “Change”, we have a bunch of very good tracks for the fans of this genre and the band seems to be cooperating really well although the production is not so supportive to the group’s sound. If I had to mention one negative thing about the band’s skills I am afraid I’ll have to mention something about the band’s singer, Ana Maria Barajas. Although talented and gifted with a wonderful voice, has to work seriously on her accent. Call me a weirdo but either this or I am too used to hearing such stuff only by Northern European women… \r\n

\r\nOn the whole people who fancy progressive and gothic will have to turn their attention to Nova Orbis. Maybe, not even close, this isn’t the album of the year, but I think every band that makes something serious going on deserves our respect and I will include Nova Orbis in those bands. \r\n
