Stormlord - Mare Nostrum
Stormlord - Mare Nostrum
\r\nEvery album of Stormwitch is something special for me. Personally I believe that they probably are the only band that manage to create such a sound and combine so successfully Epic/Power Metal sound with Black Metal. That’s why they are described as an Extreme Epic Metal Band. Mare Nostrum is the Italians’ fourth full-lenghted album and they pleasantly surprise us, as always. This album is more technical and more experimental the band has ever released as there are some new elements but also compositions are more complicated but not exagerating. The music we listen to in this album is a combination of the first two albums, Supreme Art Of War and The Gates Of Utopia, with the only difference that everything is more technical and experimental, as I said previously. Stormlord music is melodical and has an oriental touch throughout its biggest part, while they reminded me of Melechesh’s good times. All of the compositions have energy and power the vocals provide, and the excellent melodies come from either the guitars or the keyboards. Speed is high as always but there are some points where the sentimental side of the band comes out and we get something beautiful out of mid tempo riffs and catchy transactions. The unusual thing of Stormlord that we have here is the addition of clean vocals reminding of gothing situations. My opinion though is that even these are perfectly aligned to the result and most importantly it’s not annoying. One of their strong cards of the group is the amazind hard sound for witch responsible is Giuseppe Orlando (Novembre) and we should say that the mastering took place at the notorious Finnvox Studios with Mika Jussila. Mare Nostrum is an epic, extreme and melodic album that combines everything in absolut and unique balance. If you like anything different and unusual stuff then check it out! \r\n
