CHEMIKILL - EDGE OF WASTELAND

Οι Chemikill μας έρχονται απο το δοξασμένο Ohio. Τους έχουμε συναντήσει πάλι στη συλλογή του 1990 Heavy Artillery ανάμεσα σε μπάντες όπως  Breaker, Purgatory, Titan Force, Attaxe  και πολλές  άλλες. Εκτοτε υπήρξαν αλλαγές στο line up της μπάντας. Αξίζει να αναφέρω την προσθήκη του Mark Alexander (πρωην μπασιστα των Purgatory).

Επτά συνθέσεις όπως το καταιγιστικό Blackened Void ( κομμάτι που υπήρχε και στο πρώτο demo της μπάντας του 1989) , το Edge  of Wasteland (με εσάνς απο Overkill) , το Fear the Warrior και γενικά όλα τα κομμάτια λειτουργούν σαν  μια “χρονοκάψουλα” που σε πάει πολλά χρόνια πίσω.  Η φωνή της μπάντας, ο Fred Flory  κινείται σε υψηλές συχνότητες κάτι που σε πολλά σημεία θυμίζει τον  Alan Tecchio των Hades.  Τα μελωδικά σημεία του δίσκου μας παραπέμπουν στους Breaker (Cleveland) και τα πιο τεχνικά στους Hades καθώς και στους Purgatory. Εξαιρετικά drums μίλια μακριά απο τον κενό ήχο των καινούργιων κυκλοφοριών.

Η ποικιλία ήχου που παρουσιάζει αυτό το album είναι και το στοιχείο που τον κάνει τόσο ιδιαίτερο. Power και speed με πολλά μελωδικά σημεία παντρεύονται τόσο αρμονικά που δεν σου επιτρέπουν να διακόψεις την ακρόαση για κανένα λογο.

Το “Edge of Wasteland” ήταν η έκπληξη του 2019 αρκεί να σκεφτoύμε ότι η μπάντα ήταν σε αδράνεια πάνω απο 20 χρόνια. Αδύνατον να ξεχωρίσω τραγούδι καθώς όλος ο δίσκος είναι σε υψηλό επίπεδο και η λειτουργία του pause ειναι απλά άχρηστη.

Το μόνο αρνητικό που θα μπορούσα να αναφέρω είναι το cover το οποίο επ ουδενί δεν παραπέμπει στον ήχο της μπάντας. Αλλά και για αυτό υπάρχει λύση. Απλά το αγοράζεις με “κλειστά  μάτια”

Hailing from the glorious state of Ohio, Chemikill introduced themselves to the public with the 1990 Heavy Artillery collection which also featured bands like Breaker, Purgatory, Titan Force, Attaxe and many more. There have been some changes to the band's line up ever since, most notably the addition of bass player Mark Alexander (former Purgatory)

Seven songs, including the killer track "Blackened Void" (which was featured in the band's first demo of 1989), "The Edge of Wasteland" (with a just a bit of Overkill)," Fear the Warrior" and the rest of the album forms a time capsule that takes us back many years. The band's vocalist, Fred Flory, provides high pitched vocals, which in many ways reminds us of Alan Tecchio of Hades. The more melodic parts of the album are reminiscent of the band Breaker (Cleveland) and the more technical parts, of Hades and Purgatory. Excellent drumming, which is miles away from the usual sound of the new releases.

The variety of the sound in that album is also what makes it so special as well as unique. Power and speed metal with many melodic parts, are joined in marriage in such a harmoniously way, that they don't allow you to stop listening.No way!

"Edge of Wasteland" was the surprise release of 2019 since the band was actually inactive for more than 20 years. It is impossible to highlight a single song, since the whole album stands at a high level and the pause button is simply useless.

If I have to mention one flaw of this release, that would be the cover of the album which, in my opinion, fails to represent the sound of the band (which seems somewhat more suitable for a thrash release).

Long story short, grab your copy as fast as you can. This album is a "must-have" for all the true lovers of metal.
