DAGON - Terraphobic

DAGON - Terraphobic

I am just curious to see what comes next…Dagon, as the information sheet suggests are playing Oceanic Metal(?!!). Yes that’s it. It’s all about a new kind of Metal born from Dagon’s concept based on tales about the exploration of the oceans and its uncovered mysteries, raging sea beasts and epic sea battles.(Attention: Don’t confuse them with bands like Running Wild or Alestorm, those are playing Pirate Metal! It’s completely different). In fact “Terraphobic” except from being Dagon’s second album, is nothing more than an average death metal release with some black metal influences. Most of the vocals are typical death metal growls switching to black shrieks when necessary. The compositions have nothing new to offer to the genre and they don’t sound so inspired either. Sure there are some good riffing and a few catchy melodies on the guitars but this is not enough to “save the day”. In the production, on the other hand I must admit that an excellent work has been done and this has as a result for the band to have a more modern approach to their sound, similar to that of the most metalcore bands, crystal clear. An amazing job has been done on the cover artwork too, I should mention that.
\r\nHonestly I don’t know if Dagon and their Oceanic Metal will attract the fans of the genre. All I know is that it didn’t work for me.
