Epicurean - A Consequence Of Design
Epicurean - A Consequence Of Design
\r\nEpicurean was formed back in 2004 in Minesota USA\r\nand they recorded their debut album in 2005 under the titleA Consequence Of Design. On March\r\n2007 they caught Metal Blade’s attention and one year later they\r\nreleased their debut album with two more songs. When you first listen to the album\r\nyou get a chaotic and indifferent impression. It’s hard for the listener to\r\ncompletely receive what he/she heard and therefore gets tired. On the second\r\nlisten you get intrigued since many parts within the tracks become clearer and\r\neven exciting. The third time you listen to the album you just swallow and\r\nquestion yourself what the hell are they doing? Epicurean cannot be categorized\r\neasily and for that reason we are going to stick to how they characterize themselves\r\nin their myspace page which is Metal / Death Metal / Progressive. This band made happen what could not be done.\r\nThey managed to write music influenced by the entire range of metal (and when I say the entire I mean it) and the result is more than satisfying.\r\nIt’s a result unique and different which can only win a place in our hearts. We can listen to 11 tracks which vary and we\r\nfind elements of Hardcore, Nu Metal, Power Metal, Heavy Metal, Progressive,\r\nDeath, Symphonic Metal etc . . Whoever has never listened to the band will certainly be skeptic about it. One would expect something that\r\nhas no melodies at all or catchy riffs and many shifts on rhythms. \r\n
\r\n
\r\nThere are shifts of rhythms only the band never neglects its melodies which are presented by the vital presence of the keyboards. It might be the only band\r\nwhich has managed to combine keys in chaotic sound this well. Tracks are technical but melodic, extreme but ordinary, in-your-face but sentimental but most and above all created by musicians willing to take risks and experiment under great\r\ninspiration. A Consequence Of Design is one of the best albums I’ve heard in\r\n2008 and I don’t thing that will change. Let’s hope Epicurean will continue in this manner and until then we bow before their magic… \r\n
