\r\nSpinefarm is a pretty big label to me… Just scan the list of the bands represented by them to realize the role they have in the melodic-atmospheric scene’s growth.. Shallow the Sun come from Finland, as many of the bands of the label and Plague of Butterflies is their last release just after summer’s end, pretty good time to make things a bit colder.
After their 19 year separation, not the original, but almost the complete "Remnants of War" line up, of Helstar reformed in 2006 (the 20th anniversary) and announced that they would start touring. From this line up only drummer Rene Luna was missing. Since then they have offered us, through the same label, a collection of the band’s favourite classic songs re-recorded with
\r\nCustom Made Noise comes from Thessaloniki (Hellas) and they present to us their first sample of work, which contains four tracks and as things show it is one more hopeful effort coming from a new band, which worth paying attention to. What I liked the most. The furious vocals, the raw guitars and the impressively tied up rhythm section, which, combined with a very good production and in general an extremely professional attitude, result in burning your brain out. Brutality, musical “brinkmanship” and vocals that can drive you insane.
\r\n So, the time has come and the frontman of the once mighty Emperor is releasing his second solo album "Angl". His previous release "The Adversary" featured Ihsahn’s return to the symphonic black metal, after his avant-gard trips with his wife’s project Peccatum, although with many progressive and melodic elements and a much larger diversity and experimentation even from the latest Emperor musical escapades.
\r\n I suppose even from the name of this band, if you don’t already them, you understand the kind of metal that we are dealing here with. Blood, rape and sexual perversion what else could you remind you of than the beloved and always likeable Cannibal Corpse (of course generally speaking)!!! So, Brutal death metal it is, with gore lyrics and one more release from Neurotic Records.
This September seems like is the month of the veterans. After Bob Catley’s brand new release, another legend strikes back, with a live album this time. Joe Lynn Turner’s great carreer, includes some cooperations with huge bands such as "Rainbow" realising : Difficult to Cure (1981), Jealous Lover EP (1981), Straight Between the Eyes (1982) and Bent Out of Shape (1983) and "Deep Purple" (Slaves & Masters (1990)). He has also recorded two HTP albums (Hughes - Turner - Project) with the legend, Glenn Hughes, Yngwie J.
\r\n Disavowed is a Holland band playing brutal technical death metal inspired by bands like Morbid Angel, Suffocation and Dying Fetus. "Stagnated Existence" is their sophomore album and it is released via Dutch Neurotic Records containing 10 tracks of pure death metal feast.
\r\nWhen I listened to the intro of the first song, I thought that it was something from Queen, something that it didn’t happen to listen till now. “Star” gives you the impression that after a while Mercury will start singing, however that changes in the process. The truth is that I had to listen to this album many times before making up my mind on weather I like it or not.
\r\n Corpus Mortale is a band from Denmark and "A New Species Of Deviant" is their third studio album although they exist in the scene for fifteen years now featuring former members of Denmark’s Iniquity.
\r\nTo tell the truth I was never into Sslipknot. The whole thing with the uniforms, the masks and the so called “Nu metal” sound was never something I would listen to. I used to see it as a new trick of the music industry based on the extreme look and the extreme sound in order to attract people. To be totally honest when I first listened to IOWA my thoughts were just confirmed. Since then i stopped watching them , until I recently listened to their last album and I was completely amazed! Honestly I never expected such a great album from Slipknot!
